Hi all! I know it's been roughly forever since I've posted to this. I take this meme every few years. And it changes all the time...
What American accent do you have?
Created by Xavier on

Neutral. Not Northern, Southern, or Western, just American. Your national American identity is more important to you than your local identity, because you don't really have a local identity to begin with.

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

Dear god that's a lot of HTML...

What happened?
so.. here's the long update of what's been going on.
Yes, I'm still in the states but only until tomorrow. I didn't get my visa until yesterday. Booooooo!

So from the beginning, I apply for a visa, it gets rejected for unknown reasons. I re-apply for a visa, they email my boss the reasons. She contacts me and lets me know what they said. I got my email corrected with them. >:( I get the two documents they needed. A week goes by.... the invitation letter isn't right (mind you, NO WHERE on the Consulate's web page are the requirements for this letter. I had to do a ton of extra research to cover all the possible things they could want in this letter). I have Mau re-write the letter and send it to them. Monday, a week before my flight I get Stirling's paperwork together. It's only valid for 10 days otherwise I have to do it all over again.
A few days later, it's 3 business days before my flight leaves and the Consulate sends me another email saying Mau's letter is not right. I get a hold of Mau and have him re-re-write the letter and have it notarized before I send it back to the consulate. I get no word from the consulate on Wed., Thurs, or Fri. My flight is scheduled to leave on Saturday.
Thursday night I get a call from the airline saying that they can't fly Stirling on Sunday/Monday because Monday is a Brazilian holiday. I reschedule him to depart on Monday and arrive on Tuesday after calling Mau and coordinating a 2 day stint in Sao Paulo so my cat and I can reunite on Tuesday. Saturday, there is still no sign of the visa and I HAVE to change my flight before I reach the 24 hours prior point or my ticket is useless. So I get a hold of Mau and his father and try to coordinate a flight for Wednesday/Thursday. I reschedule my tickets, and reschedule Stirling's flight and pay a whole lot of fees. Ugh.

Yesterday, I got my visa! :D

So ... NOW everything should go smoothly... what a mess!

Another Update?
Hmm... so I haven't updated this in a LONG time.

Tomorrow is my last day at INDU (Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore). It was a great job. I learned a TON, liked what I was doing, AND I had an awesome boss. I never got bored or thought "I don't want to go in today." I didn't care much for one of my co-workers... I won't go into details, let's just say there's always gonna be that one guy you can't stand. What'cha gonna do? Live and learn I guess. Please tell me if I'm ever that guy O.o

Oh yeah.. November 1st I get on a plane for Brazil so I'm not sure when I'll update again. The good news is, with my laptop, I won't have to learn a whole new way to type XD

How to keep in touch? I use skype... I play WoW.. I have email... facebook seems to work too. :)

Apartment shopping
Today I got to visit the most beautiful house I think I've ever seen. It belongs to an elderly lady and I was there to see if it would be someplace I would like to live for the summer.

Everything about this house is gorgeous. Especially the picture windows you could ride an elephant through that frame a beautiful view of Lake Michigan and the dunes. You can even see Chicago from her living room on a clear day. I would have my own room, bathroom, kitchen area. Stirling would have his own bathroom too as a little cubby under the stairs that is perfect for litter boxes. Everything is furnished so I wouldn't have to bring a bed or dressers or any of that junk... She doesn't want any rent from me. Just help with things like taking out garbage or bringing in the mail. She complained that it's hard to hang the hummingbird feeder when it's full and that those darned 15 or so birds sure drank a lot.

So why am I bulking? I guess one thing that concerns me is how Stirling would behave. There aren't any other cats there and he can get needy. I'm also afraid that this woman might be one of those random people that Stirling might hate. He does that. Random... mauling of certain people. He also has a minor bad habit of clawing furniture. I would feel TERRIBLE if he ripped up one of her pieces. He also loves windowsills and she has a wonderful collection of plants lined up.

What else? I would have to get another phone line installed. She has dial-up on her current line but.. that's for her. I'm an internet hog. I know it. Hahah but hopefully that would be easy to work out.

The other place I looked at just seemed sad in comparison. There were sheets hung from the ceiling of the basement to separate 'rooms'. A twin bed and some shelves. She wanted $250/mo for the place which is reasonable but it's not in the greatest neighborhood. No one has touched her lawn in a LONG time and lawn work was part of the agreement. I also have to pretend not to be there when her daughter is around, except for in the kitchen.

I guess I really like the idea of living alone. I've never really lived alone.. but in doing so I'd have to come up with all those furnishings. Bleh.

We'll see.

Got the job!
Great! So I got the job at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. I'm pretty stoked.
I'll be part of a fire crew that does research on the types of vegetation that come back after a fire. My boss says there will be opportunities to do wildland fire fighting. There is HUGE money in this... and as you all know, I'm moving to another hemisphere and extra cash would be nice. The one down side to this is I have to pass the pack test.

What is the pack test? The pack test is a 3 mile hike with a 45lbs vest that must be done in under 45 minutes. It sounds easy at first... it is fucking hard. I failed it last year. I like to think I failed it because I didn't train and I was 6000ft above sea level. I really don't want to fail it this year and it is in my best interest to be in good shape if I'm fighting wildland fires. God forbid I ever have to eat an MRE though.

I want to obtain a ps2, copies of DDR games, a memory card, and a dance pad. If you know anyone that is giving away/selling/ or willing to rent these things out to me for a reasonable price CONTACT ME. I need to start this work out business like last month. I also have items to trade like a big TV and other assorted goodies that won't be coming to Brazil with me.

Also I will be doing biking trips on the weekends. If you have interest in this please contact me. Biking by yourself is not nearly as fun as doing it in groups. There's a great trail out here and lots all over GR. I have a bike rack for my car so transporting your transport should be simple.
